Selected Work

A Monster Calls

Brian’s most recent work as a sound designer, A Monster Calls was the third production of Baylor’s 2022-2023 season. It is a show about a child trying to grapple with his mother’s slow and inevitable death. In failing to do so, he begins losing his grip on reality as his dream world begins to meld with the real world. Due to the nature of the show as we see the world through the eyes of the child, it required them to continuously meet every week, collaborating with their director to aptly portray his mental state aurally.

The Tender Land

The Tender Land was the Baylor Opera’s spring 2022 production. A big shift from their first lighting design, this show was their first musical show and their first design outside of Baylor Theatre. This production has now been selected as a national semi-finalist for the American Prize in Opera Performance in the college/university division.

The Last Night of Ballyhoo

The Last Night at Ballyhoo was the first production of Baylor Theatre’s 2021-2022 season. This was their first production as a lighting designer at Baylor. Set in Atlanta, Christmas 1939, the play mostly takes place in a large two-story Georgian house. This would greatly inform the subtle use of naturalistic lighting and practical fixtures to convey the passage of time and to make the space feel realistic.
